Making its debut at the Motorhome & Caravan Show at Birmingham’s NEC, the new SsangYong Turismo Camper is a fully-equipped tourist campervan.
Based on a regular Turismo MPV – which is larger than most standard sized people carriers, says SsangYong – the Tourist camper is over 5 metres long with a 3 metre wheelbase.
Power comes from a 2.2 litre Euro 6 diesel engine with the choice of a 6-speed manual gearbox or a new Mercedes-Benz 7-speed automatic, and with the option of two-wheel drive or 4x4. Maximum power is 178PS with peak torque of 400Nm, delivered from 1,400rpm through to 2,800rpm.
The design and manufacturing work to convert the regular MPV into the Turismo Tourist Camper was completed in the UK by specialist campervan manufacturer, Wellhouse Leisure of Huddersfield.
The campervan comprises a colour-matched elevating roof, driver and passenger swivel and folding seats to create twin beds with in-fill cushions and memory foam toppers, a rear tailgate awning, sliding glass top hob for indoor or outdoor use, small sink, gas bottle, 12v charging system, 25-litre compressor fridge, fresh and waste water containers, portable toilet, and all woodwork made from light weight ply.
“Turismo is one of the largest cars on the market, and in standard form offers seating for seven adult passengers and their luggage, and therefore ideal for conversion into a two-person campervan,” says Paul Williams, CEO of SsangYong Motor UK. “Wellhouse Leisure has done an excellent job in creating such a great vehicle for the booming leisure market.”
As with all models in the SsangYong range, the Turismo Tourist is covered by a 5 year limitless mileage warranty. Prices start at £29,995, and options include Eberspacher heating, mains hook-up and a solar panel.
The Motorhome & Caravan Show runs from 11-16 October at the NEC, Birmingham.
