The first examples of Mazda’s new CX-5 compact SUV have rolled off the production line in Japan.
Set to go on sale in Mazda's homeland in February 2017 before being rolled out to global markets, the first generation CX-5 - of which production began in November 2011 - introduced a new generation of Mazda models featuring the brand's ‘SKYACTIV' technology and ‘KODO design’.
Cumulative production reached 1 million units in April 2015, making it the second fastest Mazda to reach the million-unit milestone after the Mazda3, with total production reaching approximately 1.57 million units at the end of October this year.
The new CX-5 is powered by a choice of two petrol engines – the SKYACTIV-G 2.0 and SKYACTIV-G 2.5 – as well as the SKYACTIV-D 2.2 diesel. Mazda says it has refined virtually every aspect of the new model.
