TV presenter Konnie Huq has become Mitsubishi’s latest Brand Ambassador.
The eco-conscious TV celebrity picked up the keys to her new Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle from her local dealership, Humming Bird Mitsubishi in Finchley.
Mum-of-two, Konnie, said: ‘I’m delighted to be a Brand Ambassador for Mitsubishi because I think the Outlander PHEV is a fantastic vehicle. There’s a preconceived notion that to be environmentally friendly and have an electric car you end up in small, weedy cars that you can only use as run-arounds but this car flies in the face of that.’
Konnie was already very interested in the electrically powered cars, having already driven one and having previously worked with campaign group Go Ultra Low, which exists to help motorists understand the benefits, cost savings and capabilities of the variety of new ultra-low emission vehicles on the market.
She said: ‘Having researched the market, I chose the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV to review for a popular woman's magazine, and I was totally sold on it. It's easy to be sceptical because people think, what happens when you run out of battery charge and get stranded, or what if I can't find somewhere to charge up easily, but with the Outlander PHEV you don’t need to worry about that because you have the petrol engine as well.
It ticks all the boxes for me – totally family friendly, you can get a double buggy in the boot and there's loads of space left for shopping, luggage, scooters whatever! There’s no Congestion Charge to pay when I drive into central London and it’s environmentally friendly.’
The Outlander PHEV can travel up to 32 miles in electric mode alone and – together with its petrol engine – has a combined range in excess of 500 miles. It’s exempt from vehicle tax plus the London congestion charge and currently qualifies for the Government’s Plug-in Car Grant.
