The World Premiere of Jaguar’s all-new E-PACE – held at London’s ExCeL – saw the compact SUV leaping into the record books with a dramatic stunt!
Driven by stunt driving supremo Terry Grant, the new E-PACE set an official Guinness World Record with a 15.3 metre-long jump complete with a 270-degree corkscrew-like ‘barrel roll’. ExCeL in London is one of only a handful of venues in the UK big enough to accommodate the 160-metre run-up and run-off required for the 15-metre leap.
Stunt driver Terry Grant, who holds a total of 21 Guinness World Records, said: “As far as I am aware no production car has ever cleanly completed a bona-fide barrel roll and therefore it has always been an ambition of mine to perform one ever since I was a boy.”
The E-PACE is the newest member of Jaguar’s SUV family, joining the larger F-PACE and the forthcoming all-electric I-PACE.
Jaguar says the exterior design is inspired by the F-TYPE sports car and is characterised by the trademark Jaguar grille, muscular proportions, short overhangs and powerful haunches.
Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar, said: “Established Jaguar design principles ensure the E-PACE is immediately recognisable as the sports car of its class. Our new compact SUV combines the interior space, connectivity and security that families expect with the kind of proportions, purity of design and performance not usually associated with such a practical vehicle.”
The compact SUV is 4,395mm long with front and rear overhangs of 882mm and 832mm respectively. Within its 2,681mm wheelbase there is seating for five passengers with rear legroom of up to 892mm. Boot capacity of 577 litres is made possible by the E-PACE’s compact Integral Link rear suspension architecture.
Digital connectivity throughout the cabin is focused around the next-generation touchscreen infotainment system which connects passengers to their favourite apps. There are up to four 12-volt charging points and five USB connections as well as a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot for up to eight devices.
Under the bonnet, there’s a choice of petrol and diesel engines. The 300PS petrol turbo engine launches the E-PACE from 0-60mph in a shade under 6 seconds on its way to an electronically-limited top speed of 151mph. For customers who want the ultimate efficiency, the front-wheel drive 150PS diesel delivers CO2 emissions of 124g/km.
Customer orders for the Jaguar E-PACE are open now, with prices starting from £28,500 on the road.
