UK order books open for new Chevrolet Camaro
Chevrolet has revealed the all-new sixth-generation Camaro will cost from £31,755 OTR - with order books open now.
That’s for the Coupe version, while the Convertible will cost from £35,755 OTR. With higher levels of performance and technology, interior and exterior refinements, as well as a smaller and lighter architecture, the new Camaro features a more 'athletic-looking, sculpted exterior'.
The muscular effect of the exterior makes the new car look lower and wider than before, even though it is within 50 mm of the exterior dimensions of the outgoing model. Exterior styling contributes to performance by reducing aerodynamic lift for better handling, while enhancing efficiency. Through computer-aided engineering, Chevrolet was able to increase structural rigidity by 28 percent, while the total curb weight for the Camaro has been reduced by more than 90 kg.
A ‘first-ever’ Camaro Turbo engine package comprises of a new 2.0L turbo with 275 hp and 400 Nm of torque for a 0-62 mph time of under six seconds. Despite the performance, the new Camaro is described as the most fuel-efficient ever.
Chevrolet is also bringing the most powerful Camaro V8 ever to our shores - the new 6.2L LT1 direct-injected Small Block V8. Priced from £37,020 OTR it’s rated at 453 hp with 617 Nm of torque. Active Fuel Management (cylinder de-activation technology) for the V8 Automatic, allows the car to achieve 25% better fuel efficiency than the previous generation.
The LT1 engine is available mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission – with new Active Rev Match technology that “blips” the throttle for perfectly timed downshifts, says Chevrolet – or a Hydra-Matic 8L90 paddle-shift eight-speed paddle shift automatic, and when fitted with the auto box, the Camaro V8 is capable of sprinting from 0-62 mph in 4.4 seconds.
Each engine has been carefully tuned for a distinctive performance sound. All Turbo models feature active noise cancellation, which uses sound waves to cancel unwanted cabin noise.
The Convertible model is built on new, lightweight architecture with modular underbody bracing, which significantly improves performance and handling. The fully automatic soft top can be operated remotely via the key fob or from inside at speeds of up to 30 mph. The top takes 20 seconds to cycle both up and down and folds away beneath a hard tonneau cover.
Analog instruments on the inside provide the driver with essential performance information, along with an eight-inch-diagonal high-definition centre screen that can be configured to provide additional information - from navigation, performance, to infotainment features. Another eight-inch screen, integrated in the centre of the instrument panel, serves as the interface for the enhanced, next-generation MyLink system.
