Pure electric McLaren P1 revealed
McLaren has launched an Electric P1 - aimed exclusively at the drivers under the age of six.
But top speed is 3mph and the car’s audio system is pre-programmed with popular nursery rhymes as standard. Although McLaren has already revealed plans to one day add a Pure Electric Vehicle (or EV) to its Ultimate Series, this new convertible P1 is of course only for a limited group of potential customers and priced at just £375.
The little EV is based on today’s McLaren P1 although the diminutive McLaren differs from its larger brother in two important areas. Firstly, it has a central driving position, just like the iconic McLaren F1, and secondly, the young will be able to experience what adults never could - an open-top McLaren P1.
Retaining McLaren’s signature dihedral doors and familiar P1 face, its also features a central 'exhaust' and diffuser as well as running on McLaren 10-spoke 'alloys'. Surging into life via a one-button stop/start function (which automatically activates the lights and ‘air-conditioning’ unit) the mini P1 reaches its top speed in just two seconds. It also features a reverse gear in addition to its three speed, forward transmission. Handy if you’ve arrived at the wrong playground.
The Ride On, electric McLaren P1 is the first officially licensed product from McLaren Automotive to enter this growing market segment and is only available in Volcano Yellow.
Ready to order from the end of October and priced at £375.00, sales will then commence at recognised global toy retailers.
