Mazda MX-5 RF production gets underway
The first retractable hardtop version of the new Mazda MX-5 - the RF – has rolled off the assembly line in Japan.
Production began at Ujina Plant No.1 near Mazda’s global headquarters in Hiroshima, with models bound for North American and European markets.
Truly a member of the MX-5 family, the MX-5 RF fully embodies the core value of "Lots of Fun" that has defined the MX-5 throughout its 27-year history.
The new two-seater lightweight sports car features a unique fastback design and offers an exhilarating open-air feel, says Mazda.
Originally launched 27 years ago, production of the MX-5 reached 1 million units on April 22 this year. The fourth-generation version was named World Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year in 2016.
In Japan, the Mazda MX-5 RF (known locally as the Roadster RF) is set to go on sale later this year, with launches in the US and Europe slated for early 2017.
